Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood believes the club’s poor start to the season can be turned around with a much-needed victory.
Despite Spurs recording just the one win so far – against Championship side Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup a month ago – Sherwood remains convinced the Londoners possess enough quality to compete in the Premier League.
He also admits that the uncertainty over Richarlison’s future is damaging for everyone involved.
Tottenham’s worrying form
During an exclusive interview with MaxFreeBets, Sherwood said of Spurs’ current malaise: “They just need a win. That’s what they need.
“They need the first [league] win to get out of the way and get some confidence, because with that group of players, what they’re showing at the moment, they can’t be as bad as what they’re showing.
“So, it’s just about a shot in the arm, get three points and then move on from there, but the longer this run goes, especially without a goal, it’s worrying.
“These new players are learning what it’s like to play for Tottenham Hotspur. It’s a lot of noise, it’s a lot of scrutiny – and quite rightly so, because it’s a huge club.”

Richarlison frozen out
On the Brazilian forward’s situation in north London, Sherwood added: “It’s a shame for Richarlison.
“They got rid of [Cristian] Romero. They didn’t want him, they didn’t want Djed Spence and they should have tried to pave the way for Richarlison to leave.
“It didn’t materialise. Everyone thought he was going back to Everton. It would have been a good move for him, it would have been a good move for Everton.
“I know the Tottenham fans don’t like the fact that Richarlison’s still there, but he scored eleven goals in a poor team last year and he did contribute to them staying in the league.
“I’m not sure he’s being disrespected. I hate to say that. He’s a footballer, he’s earned his money and he’s just fallen out of favour.
“But no one is doing well out of this situation. Hopefully, that can have a quick resolution in January.
“He’s only registered to play in the Carabao Cup and it doesn’t look like he’s playing in that either, so it’s a real shame for him and the club.”
