Former world champion and Sky Sports pundit Nico Rosberg has added his opinions on the 2026 regulations to the pool of polarised comments.

Although understanding they are “a bit awkward”, Rosberg has a much more positive outlook on the regulations.

The controversy

There have been endless negative comments on the new regulations since the 2026 season started, in some cases, even before.

The drivers have been very vocal, with Max Verstappen finding himself at the centre of almost all discussions on complaints about the regulations.

But he is not alone.

Whether it is drivers, pundits, fans, or others, the overall opinions have been drastically negative.

More than once, terms such as ‘Mario Kart’, ‘yo-yo racing’, and ‘artificial’ have been thrown about as descriptors for the racing action under the new regulations.

Rosberg’s refreshing take

Amidst the overwhelming negativity towards these regulations, Rosberg has taken a more “easy-going” stance when speaking with Bloomberg.

Understanding and acknowledging the criticisms, Rosberg talked about the problems with drivers being unable to go flat-out and having to lift off down the straights.

“So, from a spectator’s point of view, it can be a bit awkward when you’re supposed to be going flat out with the highest-performing F1 car”, he added.

Yet despite this, his overall take on the new regulations has been more positive than most.

“Nevertheless, I am easy-going on that, from my point of view, as long as there are great battles between teams and other teams.”

However, as the spring break continues, so do talks with the FIA about tweaking the regulations to better appease those with negative views.
