Football: Sky Sports correspondent surprised with Trent missing the call up

Trent Alexander Arnold Thomas Tuchel

We are always surprised when a big-name player doesn’t make the England squad, but when Trent Alexander-Arnold isn’t selected, the media are absolutely shocked.

This would make sense, but Trent hasn’t even been close to his best ability, writes Rant Sport‘s Tyler Cooke.

Sky Sports correspondent surprised by Trent’s absence

Sky Sports correspondent Rob Dorsett commented on the team size, an unprecedented decision in English football history.

“The 35 players’ selection is fascinating. Not been done before, has it?”

More shocking than the number of players was the actual players selected, according to Dorsett.

The biggest name that shocked him the most was Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the Real Madrid star not selected by Tuchel, even in the massive squad.

“I’m hugely surprised there’s no Trent Alexander-Arnold.”

Rob Dorsett warned that Trent should be worried that he didn’t make the team, and that his chances of making the England squad for the World Cup are now slim.

“You have to say, he will be very fearful for his chances of making the World Cup now.”

If he’s not making a 35-man roster, what are his chances of going in the 26-man World Cup squad?

The right decision

I don’t think leaving Trent out of the England squad was the wrong decision.

Trent hasn’t lived up to the hype at Real Madrid, and fans have been unimpressed so far.

At the beginning of the season, Trent was struggling to get into the Madrid squad over Dani Carvajal, even though he was brought in to be the Spaniard’s replacement.

Thomas Tuchel has become England manager to win trophies and has stated that he isn’t afraid to leave big players out who aren’t performing. Trent is one of those players who isn’t performing to the level he should be.

With the ex-Liverpool player only just coming back from injury as well, I feel like it is the right decision to leave him out.

Let’s stop filling the England squad with big names that aren’t performing. It hasn’t worked in the past, and it won’t work now.

Trust in what Tuchel is doing.
