Each season, we see new youngsters come through and make their league debuts, but none have had the recent hype and boast that Arsenal’s Max Dowman has.
Rant Sport’s Joshua Marshall takes a look at the Chelsea legend backing the young Arsenal player.
Chelsea legend sings praises for rival youngster
There are certain things in football you simply don’t expect to see. A referee admitting he got it wrong. FIFA acting with transparency. John Terry, Mr Chelsea, the man who bled blue for over a decade, gushing over an Arsenal player. Yet here we are.
Ex-Chelsea captain John Terry took to social media to praise the young gunner, stating, “I’ve not seen anyone glide past people as this man does, other than Messi,” which has sparked some ferocity amongst the Chelsea faithful.
Compared to one of the greatest, if not the greatest. Insane.

But setting aside the sheer comedic value of a Chelsea icon voluntarily bigging up north London opposition, there’s a more serious point to be made here.
Just another ‘star boy’?
It’s one that nobody seems particularly interested in having. How many times have we been down this exact road? A flashy youngster emerges, a big name attaches themselves to the hype train, and suddenly we’re talking about a generational talent before the kid has strung together a consistent run of games.
Don’t get me wrong, no matter the team, playing senior Premier League football at 16 is beyond impressive. But this isn’t the first time we have seen a story like this. And for the ending? It’s almost the same, another ‘what if’.
Dowman may well go on to prove every sceptic wrong. Genuinely, we hope he does. But the last person who should be fuelling the fire is a Chelsea legend doing Arsenal’s PR.
Cool the jets, John.
